NEW YORK — Game 5 of the American League Division Series between the New York Yankees and Cleveland Guardians will take place at Yankee Stadium on Monday night. On Sunday night, the Yankees won Game 4 to force a decisive Game 5. In the ALCS, the victor will face the Houston Astros. Loser is sent home. Here is how to view Game 5.
Rain forced the ALDS Game 2 to be postponed, forcing the Yankees and Guardians to play Games 2-5 over the course of four days. According to the current prognosis, Game 5 will also be disrupted by the weather, however a delay rather than a postponement is more likely.
The first pitch is set for 7:07 p.m. ET, and according to weather forecasts, rain will fall in New York between 7-9 p.m. ET. The remainder of the night will be dry once that band of rain has passed. The most likely scenario is for Game 5 to start late.
All weather-related choices are made by Major League Baseball during the postseason. If Game 5 is postponed, it will likely take place on Tuesday, which is now an off day between the ALDS and ALCS. Given that the winner must go to Houston for Game 1 of the ALCS on Wednesday, that matchup may very likely take place in the afternoon. Fortunately, a rainout seems improbable.
In Game 5, the Yankees will start right-hander Jameson Taillon (14-5, 3.91 ERA). Aaron Civale of the Guardians will respond for the opposition (5-6, 4.92 ERA). It’s anticipated that both starters will have a short leash. Here is how each team has organized their bullpen for Game 5.
