Neymar and Kylian Mbappe combine for a close victory for PSG against Marseille. The Classic

PARIS — After defeating Olympique de Marseille 1-0 on Sunday at Parc des Princes in Ligue 1, Paris Saint-Germain now has the title. Just before halftime, Neymar scored the game’s solitary goal, and OM concluded the match with 10 men after Samuel Gigot received a red card.

After three straight draws, the French champions enjoyed a welcome return to form, and they avoided suffering a potentially disastrous first loss of the season at a time when controversy is rife. Even though Kylian Mbappe did not score the game-winning goal, he was crucial in its creation as he set it up for Neymar before denying recent rumors that he is dissatisfied with PSG.

When questioned about a possible January transfer, Mbappe responded, “No, I’m not mad at PSG. “I’m overjoyed. I have not requested a move in January. On the day of a game that I didn’t understand, the report came to light. Even though I am not connected, I was as astonished as everyone else.”

As is customary for Le Classique, the most important match in French soccer, the atmosphere at home was electrifying. The home team made a quick start with a flurry of chances thanks to the intimidating environment the home fans produced despite the forced absence of the away spectators.

Pau Lopez, the goalkeeper for Marseille, made many outstanding saves in the first half to prevent PSG from taking the lead. Even when the Spaniard was defeated by a Lionel Messi free kick, his teammates, who had also covered the goal line, were saved by the woodwork.

Just before halfway, Mbappe set up Neymar for a superb finish in off the post, giving it the extra something it needed to defeat Lopez. The Brazilian superstar had not scored for his team since the UEFA Champions League victory away at Maccabi Haifa more than a month prior.

When Marseille made a decent opening in the second half, Gianluigi Donnarumma was on guard to keep Jonathan Clauss out. However, with 18 minutes remaining, substitute Gigot was sent off for a foul on Neymar, effectively ending OM’s chances of taking something away from Parc des Princes.

Given how many opportunities the capital outfit generated, there could have been, and perhaps even should have been, a bigger winning margin. However, Lopez’s performance was so strong that he managed to thwart almost everything that was thrown at him.

After the game, Galtier said, “Both teams attacked a lot, and we started really well. “They later caused us some issues. I thought what I saw of us was excellent. We produced a lot of advantageous circumstances. Even though it was only 1-0, it was still a well-deserved victory.”

Despite the favorable outcome, PSG had another expensive evening as Danilo Pereira had to leave the game after only 25 minutes due to an injury, which made Christophe Galtier’s defensive situation worse. Presnel Kimpembe’s injury and Sergio Ramos’ suspension could make it necessary to utilize players from the youth academy in Presnel Kimpembe’s place for an extended period of time.

Following the game, Marco Verratti commented, “We knew we were in for a fight.” “Marseille are incredibly combative. They are enjoying a fantastic season. We had to win that game no matter what, and we did. We had a chance to score twice. Together, we struggled and resisted, and by playing effectively, we were able to win.”

The outcome, however, was what mattered most for the home team in this situation, and a challenging test was successfully passed to establish a three-point lead over FC Lorient in second place. Mbappe’s lack of confidence in PSG’s management is shaking the team off the field, but it has not yet had an effect on what is happening there.

Galtier said when questioned about his players, in particular Mbappe, “I am quite honest. “We search for the most effective pairings. The dressing room is operating smoothly at the moment. These athletes not only have excellent character but are also excellent professionals.”
