Justin Turner of the Dodgers will receive the 2022 MLB Roberto Clemente Award at Game 3 of the World Series.

MLB declared third baseman Justin Turner of the Los Angeles Dodgers as the recipient of the Roberto Clemente Award for 2022 on Monday. The player who “best exemplifies baseball through remarkable character, community involvement, generosity and good accomplishments, both on and off the field” receives the award each year.

According to a statement from Dodgers president and chief executive officer Stan Kasten, “The Dodger organization is extremely delighted that Justin Turner has won the 2022 Roberto Clemente Award.” Justin and his wife Kourtney “embodies what the Award stands for; their everlasting dedication to the community and support of everyone around them is very remarkable, and something we can all strive to attain.”

The Justin Turner Foundation, which was established in 2016, helps homeless veterans, kids, and families dealing with serious illnesses, as well as youth baseball organizations. Along with other things, Turner supports the hungry and homeless through The Dream Center in Los Angeles and has given more than $100,000 to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

Turner is the third Dodger to win the Roberto Clemente Honor, following Steve Garvey (1981) and Clayton Kershaw. Turner has been the Dodgers’ nominee for the award five times in the previous six seasons (2012). Prior to Monday’s Game 3 of the World Series, commissioner Rob Manfred and members of Clemente’s family will give him the trophy.

Adam Wainwright (2020), Carlos Carrasco (2020), and Nelson Cruz (2021) are recent recipients of the Roberto Clemente Award (2019). The 37-year-old Turner just finished his ninth season with the Dodgers and his 14th overall in the major leagues
