Gretar Steinsson is the new performance director at Tottenham Hotspur.

Gretar Steinsson has officially joined Tottenham Hotspur as the team’s new director of performance.

The 40-year-four-year old’s stint at Bolton Wanderers between 2008 and 2012, during which he made 126 Premier League appearances from the right-back position, is what will be most recalled about him.

Steinsson, an Icelandic player with 46 caps, stopped playing in 2013 and since then has worked in a variety of administrative positions. In 2018, he joined Everton as a scout.

Steinsson was swiftly elevated to the position of chief scout for the Toffees in the summer of 2019 before resigning from his position in December to serve as the technical advisor for the Icelandic FA.

During his playing career, the former Icelandic defender also played for BSC Young Boys, Kayserispor, and AZ Alkmaar. He accepted his first technical position with the latter team in 2015.

Steinsson worked for AZ for just two months before moving on to Fleetwood Town as technical director, where he remained for more than three and a half years before moving to Everton in 2018.
