Dodgers’ winning streak over the Royals is stopped at 12, and they are shut out for the fifth time this year.

On Sunday, the Los Angeles Dodgers suffered a 4-0 loss to the Kansas City Royals, snapping a 12-game winning run. The Dodgers’ winning streak during that span, which lasted as far as the franchise’s records go back to 1976, was the longest in the organization’s history. Since the team moved from Brooklyn to Los Angeles in 1958, the Dodgers have had a winning streak that is one victory shy of matching the longest in franchise history.

Unlike on Saturday, when the Dodgers prevailed thanks to a diverse offensive effort that saw six different players hit home runs, right-hander Brady Singer of the Royals held them at bay on Sunday. In fact, during his six innings of work, Singer only allowed one hit and three walks. Chris Taylor singled to center field in the fifth inning, giving the Dodgers their lone hit of the game.

Amir Garrett, Dylan Coleman, and Scott Barlow, a trio of Royals relievers, worked together to shut down the Los Angeles lineup over the course of the remaining three frames after Singer was removed from the game. They recorded a total of seven strikeouts.

The Dodgers were shut out for the fifth time this season on Sunday. Since June 27, they hadn’t been blanked before. In other words, the Dodgers have played in 12 games this season when they have scored 10 runs or more. The Dodgers had been on a roll recently, scoring five runs or more in nine of their eleven games in August.

The Dodgers currently have the best record in the majors with a record of 79-34 for the year. Furthermore, Los Angeles’ run differential of plus-247 is by far the best in the sport. The New York Yankees are the only other team with a plus-200 record (204). No other team is above plus-150, not even the New York Mets or Houston Astros.

For a four-game series against the Brewers that could serve as a preview of the postseason, the Dodgers will fly to Milwaukee.
